Radiation oncologist joins
Nathaniel D. Yingling, M.D., Cancer Center
Sri Kottapally, M.D., recently joined the staff of the Nathaniel D. Yingling, M.D., Cancer. He is board certified in radiation oncology.
Dr. Kottapally earned a medical degree from Kurnool Medical College in Kurnool, India. He completed internships and a radiation oncology residency at St. Francis Medical Center in Pittsburgh.
Prior to joining the Nathaniel D. Yingling, M.D., Cancer Center, Dr. Kottapally served as Chief of Radiation Oncology at the Pittsburgh VA Health System and Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc. in Monongahela.
He was an Assistant Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology, for both the University of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Cancer Institute in Pittsburgh and Hershey Medical Center in Hershey.
“I’m very familiar with western Pennsylvania because it’s where I’ve spent most of my professional career, beginning in 1981. My wife and I have two children, born in Pennsylvania. Both are graduates of Penn State University,” Dr. Kottapally said.
His decision to join the Nathaniel D. Yingling, M.D., Cancer Center, was primarily based on two factors: state-of-the-art technology and quality of the staff.
“The technology here is the same technology available in cities. We can treat most cancers, which is good for the patients because they don’t have to travel for treatments outside of the community. It’s an advantage for them to have treatment close to home.”
Dr. Kottapally added, “The staff is excellent; I couldn’t ask for better people. They are professional and caring. Each one reflects empathy every day when caring for patients.”
Dr. Kottapally understands the anxiety a potential cancer diagnosis can cause, so he makes it a point to see new patients as soon as possible. He also provides current and former patients with after-hours contact information so they can reach him with concerns.
“I’m available at NDYCC on a daily basis and attend to the patient’s needs on timely basis. I’ve always done that. No matter how busy I am, my focus is to take care of the immediate needs of the patient,” Dr. Kottapally said.
He continued, “To me, that’s the art of medicine. Medicine is not only knowing what to do regarding diagnosis and treatment – but also about having compassion and empathy for the patient, and being there for them. For me, interaction with patients is what’s most rewarding.”
Laura Adams, director of radiation oncology for the Nathaniel D. Yingling, M.D., Cancer Center, said Dr. Kottapally’s philosophy on patient care makes him the perfect choice for the Clearfield cancer center.
“We are fortunate indeed to have Dr. Kottapally join our team. His professional and academic background in radiation oncology is an asset to our service line. His focus on compassionate patient care encompasses our vision to provide care to the patients in our community in a healing, patient-focused atmosphere. Dr. Kottapally is an advocate for putting the patient first. He extends himself to patients and referring physicians. We are honored to have him join our team,” Adams said.
Dr. Kottapally is a member of American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology and a Fellow of American College of Radiation Oncology.
The Nathaniel D. Yingling, M.D., Cancer Center, located on the Clearfield Hospital campus, offers medical oncology and radiation therapy. Radiation therapy is provided through a collaborative relationship with DuBois Regional Medical Center.
