Public Invited to Open House for The Nathaniel D. Yingling, M.D. Cancer Center The public is invited to tour the new Nathaniel D. Yingling, M.D., Cancer Center during an open house slated for Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The center is located at the corner of Doctor's Drive and McBride Street on the Clearfield Hospital campus. Those attending may take self-guided tours of the cancer center, which houses Clearfield Hospital's chemotherapy clinic, and will offer a new service to the Clearfield area, radiation oncology. Radiation oncology is being provided through an affiliation with Hahne Regional Cancer Center of DuBois Regional Medical Center. This service will begin in December. Staff will be on hand to greet visitors during the open house, and light refreshments will be served. The 20,000-square-foot facility cost $3.6 million to build. The Clearfield Foundation for Health provided $600,000 in funds for the project. The center was one of five initiatives of the Heart of Our Valley capital campaign. The building is named in honor of the late Dr. Nathaniel D. "Rip" Yingling, physician and surgeon, who started his practice in November 1949. He began his medical career as an assistant to Dr. J. Hayes Woolridge, Sr., before going into 35 years of private practice. Dr. Yingling was Chief of Surgery from 1958 until 1980 at Clearfield Hospital. He and his wife, Ruth Howe Yingling, were the parents of five sons. One of their sons, Dr. Douglas B. Yingling, took over his father's surgical practice in 1983 and continues the family tradition. Dr. Douglas B. Yingling is Chief of Surgery at Clearfield Hospital. Dr. Nathaniel D. Yingling retired in October 1986 and died on Nov. 18, 1998, at the age of 75.
