David J. McConnell appointed President and CEO of Clearfield Hospital

William E. Wood, chairman of the Clearfield Hospital Board of Directors, and C. Alan Walker, chairman of Clearfield Area Health Services, announced today that David J. McConnell has been named president and chief executive officer of Clearfield Hospital.

“We are pleased to announce the board has taken action to instate David McConnell as president and CEO of Clearfield Hospital. David has served in an acting role since March and has demonstrated an excellent knowledge of hospital administration and his commitment to working with staff, physicians and the board to establish a strong, viable hospital,” Mr. Wood said.

Mr. McConnell joined Clearfield Hospital in July of 2005 as chief financial officer. Before joining Clearfield Hospital, he was the director of finance for Altoona Regional Health System.

Prior to his tenure with Altoona Regional Health System, Mr. McConnell worked for more than 17 years at Bon Secours Holy Family Regional Health System, formerly Mercy Hospital, serving as the vice president for finance/CFO for 14 years.

At Bon Secours, he also served as interim chief executive officer for a brief period.

A graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He is a Fellow in the HealthCare Financial Management Association/FHFMA and a Certified Management Accountant/CMA.

Mr. McConnell and his wife, Chris, live in Altoona. They have three children, Erin, Tim and Scott, and four grandchildren. Mr. McConnell is the son of Margaret McConnell of Altoona and the late Melvin McConnell. He is also the brother of Mel McConnell who has taught at Clearfield Area High School for many years.

“I’m privileged to work for such an outstanding organization. Clearfield Hospital has a great deal to be proud of – our excellent physicians, nurses, staff, board and volunteers. I look forward to working with these groups and the community to further Clearfield Hospital’s mission of providing quality medical care. Working together, we can ensure the community’s health care needs are met for generations to come,” Mr. McConnell said.

Clearfield Hospital, a subsidiary of Clearfield Area Health Services, is a private not-for-profit acute care hospital continuing a commitment to the community that began in 1901.
