Sr. Willenbring joins Clearfield Hospital medical staff

Clinic hours are: Mondays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesdays and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. (for lab services only).

Sr. Karen Willenbring, M.D., recently joined the medical staff of Clearfield Hospital. She will be seeing patients on Wednesdays at Houtzdale Family Medical Services.

Sr. Willenbring joins Jim McCliment, certified physician’s assistant, in practice at the Houtzdale clinic. Dr. Daniel Huckestein, who practiced at the clinic for several years, will now practice solely at his Clearfield office.

Sr. Willenbring earned a medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Hershey, and completed a residency program at St. Vincent Family Practice Residency Program in Erie. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.

She is board certified in family practice by the American Academy of Family Physicians, of which she is a member. She is also a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society.

In 2005, the University of Thomas honored Sr. Willenbring as the Humanitarian of the Year. While in residency, she was the recipient of the Mead Johnson Award for Graduate Medical Education in Family Practice, which is awarded to 20 family practice residents nationwide for excellence in the practice of medicine and commitment to service to the community.

In 2001, Sr. Willenbring founded the Susquehanna Rural Free Clinic in Frenchville, which provides free outpatient medical care to uninsured residents in Clearfield County and surrounding areas. She continues to serve as medical director of the Free Clinic.

Sr. Willenbring is an active vowed member of the Catholic religious community, the Community of Anawim of Frenchville, which operates Young People Who Care Inc. ministries. She is also a member of the Quehanna Lions Club and serves as a musician/cantor at Bethany Retreat Center liturgies.
