Clearfield Hospital is recognizing the contributions of its nursing staff during National Nurses Week, celebrated annually May 6-12 throughout the United States.

The theme for this year’s celebration, which is spearheaded by the American Nurses Association, is “Nurses: Making a Difference Every Day.”

Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.

At Clearfield Hospital, more than 240 nurses play a vital role in meeting the health care needs of the region’s residents.

Nurses provide care in departments including emergency, surgical services, home health, hospice, patient floors, doctors’ offices, cancer center, obstetrics, education, wound clinic, catheterization lab, quality management, case management, infection control/employee health, behavioral health and intensive care, among others.

“Our nurses strive to provide safe and high quality patient care. Clearfield Hospital appreciates our nursing staff’s accomplishments and efforts to improve our health care system. Nurses should not just be recognized during National Nurses Week, but at every opportunity throughout the year,” stated Kathy Simmons, chief nursing officer for Clearfield Hospital.

The hospital’s administrative staff will honor nurses by hosting a cake and punch reception during the week and having daily drawings for special prizes, among other activities. A Nurses Day dinner will also be held.
