Priscilla Brown, owner of Billy’s Burger Land in Clearfield, recently presented a donation of $532 to Clearfield Hospital Hospice. The check represents proceeds from a fund-raiser held at Billy’s in June. Patrons purchased decorative butterflies in memory of or in honor of loved ones; the butterflies were then placed on a tree. The check represents proceeds from a fund-raiser held at Billy’s during the month of June in which patrons were invited to purchase decorative butterflies in memory of or in honor of loved ones. The butterflies were then placed on a tree inside the restaurant. Those who purchased butterflies may retrieve them from Billy’s until Friday.

Mrs. Brown organized the fund-raiser as a way to show her appreciation for care hospice provided to her father, James Sanker, when he was ill. Mr. Sanker passed away April 3, 2008.

“My whole family is grateful for the support hospice provided. The nurses were very nice and were always available when we needed them. Sponsoring this fund-raiser is our way of helping others,” she said.

She continued, “I also thank my customers for their support. They are the reason the fund-raiser was so successful.”

Dana Wilson, hospice volunteer and event coordinator, said contributions from community members like Mrs. Brown are instrumental in helping hospice fulfill its mission.

“We thank Priscilla and her customers for their generosity. The donation will be used to help hospice patients and their families as they face end-of-life concerns. We could not do what we do without support from the community,” Ms. Wilson said.

Clearfield Hospice provides personal care and support for terminally ill persons and their families. It serves residents of Clearfield, Centre and Jefferson counties, as well as parts of the bordering counties of Elk, Indiana, Cambria, Clinton and Blair.
