About Speech Therapy
Speech Therapy is a treatment program designed to help patients regain and increase their ability to communicate through speech. Speech therapists can also provide special exercises for coordinating the swallowing muscles or re-stimulating the nerves that trigger the swallow reflex.
Speech Language Pathologists are usually consulted for clinical conditions such as: birth defects like cleft palate or cleft lip, stuttering or other problems with forming words or sentences, delayed speech in childhood, abnormal childhood languages, speech loss or difficulty swallowing.
Speech Therapy services for inpatients and outpatients are provided at the Hospital within the Rehabilitation Services Department. Licensed Speech Pathologists are available for outpatient sessions at the hospital and at our off-site clinic, Therapy Works.
