This unit provides the knowledge to evaluate radiographic examinations to determine the diagnostic quality. Actual evaluation of images will be done on a continuing basis throughout the clinical education.
Fundamentals of Radiographic Science
This unit will orient the student to general hospital locations, departments and people. It will provide an overview of radiography and its role in health care delivery. Basic principles of radiation will be introduced.
Human Structure and Function
This unit provides knowledge of the structure and function of the human body. Applying knowledge of anatomy and physiology for use in radiology will be presented and correlated to clinical situations.
This unit provides knowledge of equipment routinely utilized to produce diagnostic images.
Computers in Radiologic Sciences
This unit introduces the basic principles of computer technology. Concepts, terminology, and applications in radiology will be presented.
Introduction to Quality Management
This unit provides basics for the evaluation of radiographic systems to assure consistency in the production of quality images. Tests and procedures to evaluate and monitor components of the system will be discussed, along with state and federal impacts.
Introduction to Specialty Areas
This unit provides knowledge of the fundamentals and diagnostic use of ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography, CT, MRI, and Special Procedures. This course is designed to enhance the clinical observation time for these specialty areas.
Medical Ethics and Law
This unit defines ethical and legal practice and presents the ethical and legal responsibilities of the professional relative to health care delivery.
This unit provides the student with the elements of medical terminology. A word building system is introduced and specific terminology for the body is related. Abbreviations and symbols are addressed. Understanding of radiographic orders and diagnostic reports is developed.
Methods of Patient Care
This unit provides concepts of patient care including consideration of physical and psychological conditions. Routine and emergency patient care procedures will be addressed. The various roles of the radiographer in patient contact will be discussed.
This unit provides an understanding of the basic concepts of pharmacology. Drug nomenclature and categories will be presented. Specific drugs used in radiology are examined.
This unit provides knowledge of radiation physics. Fundamentals of x-ray generation and generating equipment are presented.
Principles of Radiation Biology
This unit provides the principles of cell radiation interaction. Acute and chronic effects of radiation are discussed.
Image Production and Evaluation
This unit provides knowledge of the use of specific factors which contribute to the production of a radiographic image. Laboratory materials and clinical observation will be used to demonstrate principles and concepts.
This unit provides the principles for radiation protection and responsibilities of the radiographer to himself/herself and others. Maximum permissible dose limits and regulatory standards are presented.
This unit provides an introduction to the concepts of disease, and relates pathology and disease to various radiographic procedures.
This unit provides knowledge to perform radiographic procedures, generally and for specific anatomically related areas. Laboratory demonstration is used to enhance learning prior to clinical experience.
Radiology & Medicine Today
This unit provides students with the opportunity to examine and discuss topics and issues of current interest in the Radiologic Sciences and healthcare. Oral presentations, research and written reports are included.
The focus for this unit will be a general review of all aspects of radiologic technology. The subject matter will be divided into five specific areas used by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. They are as follows: Radiation Protection; Equipment Operation and Maintenance; Image Production and Evaluation; Radiographic Procedures; and Patient Care.
This unit provides the knowledge required to perform radiographic procedures of trauma patients. Flexibility in the application of basic radiographic principles such as anatomy, radiographic procedures, patient care and image production are examined.
This unit provides the knowledge to perform venipuncture. A training arm model is used to teach the technique.
