The Hospital's fully-staffed Obstetrics Unit includes birthing rooms designed to look like home but include the most advanced technology necessary for a safe delivery. Special features, such as free childbirth classes and "rooming in," which permits newborns to stay in the same room with the mother, highlight the unit's services.
The Armstrong Birthing Center is named in memory of B. Ellen "Bert" Armstrong, RN, former unit manager, who devoted nearly 50 years to Clearfield Hospital obstetrics. The birthing center consists of four labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum suites, in which most mothers remain throughout their stay; three private patient rooms; and a hydro-massage whirlpool room. An operating room is also nearby if the need arises for surgical deliveries.
Other personal touches to make families comfortable during their stay include a special meal for parents after their baby's birth, a new blanket for newborns, hand-knit caps made by Clearfield Hospital's Comfort Care volunteers and a birth certificate suitable for framing.
The Healthy Beginnings Plus Program office is also located in the Obstetrics Department.
