About Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy prepares individuals of all ages to return to their normal activities, such as dressing, hygiene, eating, work, and leisure/play activities following an accident, illness, surgery
or physical/mental impairments at birth.
Occupational Therapists also assist patients in developing home exercise programs, instruction on safety within the home environment as well as functional activities with possible task modification. Occupational Therapists provide services throughout the life span, from infants to geriatric populations, with a multitude of diagnoses that limit an individual’s independence in self-care, work and leisure tasks.
Diagnoses may included, but are not limited to: Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, Arthritis, Hip & Knee Replacement Surgery, Dementia, Work related injuries, Cumulative Trauma Disorders such as carpal tunnel, surgical hand repairs such as tendon transfer repair, general weakness after surgery, Dementia, Visual impairment following stroke or injury, and Lymphedema.
The nature of Occupational Therapy and its role in the health care arena lends itself to many areas of practice. At Clearfield Hospital, OT services are provided in a variety of settings:
